Toy Fair New York: Shots & Thoughts

Have you recovered yet?

Yeah, us not so much either. That’s why we’re just getting around to posting a fraction of the stuff we saw there.

But that’s a good thing. By virtually all accounts, Toy Fair New York was a huge success. Media turnout was exceptional, thanks to the Toy Association team, and the group from Litzky Public Relations.

Small companies said they were writing orders, and what TA president and CEO Greg Ahearn called “casual collisions” (where people run into one another on the floor unexpectedly and have impromptu meetings) netted one fledgling company a relationship with Target. Not bad.

Greg commented on the entire experience in an episode of The Playground Podcast. And John Baulch and James Zahn shared their insights in a second episode that’s now live.

There was a lot to see, and many great meetings, not to mention an amazing night at the sold-out TOTY Awards on February 28.

Here are some things that caught our eye

It’s slime…for Sephora kids. this was a rare moment over the four days of the show when this stand wasn’t mobbed with kids outside Moose who couldn’t get enough of this.
If you don’t know The Amazing Digital Circus, you are missing out for sure. We love this entire line and the wacky comedy also from Moose.
Mattel & Hasbro collab to make one of the most creative play experiences we’ve seen in a while. Take the 65-year-old Fun Factory extruder, a new form of Play-Doh, and you’re on the way to couture.
Over at Blue Marble, we loved this innovation. How did no one think of this before?
Speaking of great arts & crafts products, we were intrigued by Diamond Dotz and all you can do with them.
LEGO brought the spring into the Javits Center with one of the most amazing displays we’ve ever seen at a Toy Fair.
Little Kids Wicked bubble wands are sure to be…popular.
The new Jazwares BLDR line is priced very well and let’s you build a relationship with many favorite characters.
VTech’s transforming mower made us smile…a lot.
Dr. Doom from Hasbro, on the other hand, was appropriately scary.
Luki Lab’s Spin Chaku is our new favorite fidget toy. Seriously, they had to take it away from me.
Schleich has built a new fantasy world…Eldrador. Amazing.
You can’t imagine how gorgeous this new Barbie line is. Well, actually, you can; that’s the entire point.
So many creative toys hatching over at Spin Master.
Another ridculously fun game from McMiller Fun.
But when it all came down to it…LEGO said it best.

Could we possibly have listed all the cool stuff we saw? Heck no.

Plus, there’s a lot of innovation that’s still under wraps, but as I keep saying, all other things being equal, this is going to be a great year to be a kid…or a kidult.
