Is Mattel up for sale? It certainly seems that way, based upon a Wall Street Journal article by Miriam Gottfried and Ben Foldy. The article headlined “Mattel Has Held Talks With Buyout Firms“ reports that Mattel has been in talks with Apollo Global Management and L Catterton. The Wall Street Journal identifies both companies as “buyout firms.”
Why is Mattel talking to suitors? They aren’t saying. According to the article, neither Mattel, Apollo, nor L Catterton is responding to requests for further information.
Perhaps the company feels now that it has turned the ship around, it is time to sell the ship. Mattel is supposed to provide more information about the last quarter after the markets close tonight, April 27, 2022. That doesn’t mean they will talk about their discussions, but it is hard to believe that it won’t come up. Keep tuned, this could be a major story.
As of 2:00 PM eastern time Mattel stock is up 11.71%.
