Neurodivergent Voices in Play

While late October spooky activities ratchet up, the toy industry forms an unstoppable West Coast force in support of the Los Angeles autism community. On Halloween afternoon, heavy hitters JAKKS Pacific, Disguise, Inc., GennComm, and Laugh Factory unite with Autism in Entertainment (AIE), Spectrum Laboratory (Spec Labs), National Lampoon, and Weekly Humorist – Super Friends-style – for the SPECTRUM ROAST SQUAD ROAST OF SUPERVILLAINS at L.A. Comic-Con. Newly diagnosed neurodivergent comic Ron Funches headlines the onstage comedy and cosplay spectacle, which also includes stars of Netflix’s Emmy-winning reality series LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM, plus special guests.

It’s Fire: The Spectrum Roast Squad
On October 31 at 2 p.m., the fun explodes live and in-person at L.A. Comic-Con inside the LA Convention Center with SPECTRUM ROAST SQUAD ROAST OF SUPERVILLAINS. This presentation follows in the footsteps of the viral LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM ROAST OF KEVIN HART, which broke the internet back in May. Many of the sassy autistic players who also honed their skills this year in other popular neurodivergent offerings – such as LAUGHS ON THE SPECTRUM and NIGHT OF TOO MANY STARS in Netflix Is a Joke Festival – are back! This NY Friars Club-reminiscent roast tackles classic comic book and movie villains in a light-hearted, sharp-witted dialogue that promises to engage attendees of all ages and fandoms.
From LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM, Dani Bowman, Dylan Aguilar, Subodh and Aarti Garg, Henry Andrade, and Chelsea Darnell are set to skewer baddies over the metaphorical fire. Easterseals Darcy award-winning HORSEGIRLS film star Lillian Carrier and her service dog Frank are sure to be showstoppers. The over-the-coal raking also features Amos Stillwell and Ameen Sajjadi. Ron Funches brings up the proverbial rear, in multiple ways that must be seen to be believed and imitated . . .
Keys to Collaboration
A cornerstone of this Halloween extravaganza is positive reinforcement from the toy industry. GennComm’s Genna Rosenberg, inaugural AIE Founding Industry Ambassador for Toys, Licensing and Consumer Products, and herself a JAKKS Pacific alum, plays an essential role in securing the Disguise costume partnership to outfit the performers in fine pop culture style. Expect all roasters, including canine Frank, to sport head-to-toe Disguise togs and accessories.
Notably, the Laugh Factory, represented by President and veteran toy inventor David Fuhrer (known as the brain behind Nerf Vortex Football, AquaDoodle, and 298 or so other amusing products) and Founder Jamie Masada, reaffirm their commitment to the autism initiative. The roast represents a repeat performance: Laugh Factory is a frequent collaborator with AIE and Spec Labs for ticketed charitable events at the Hollywood club. Laugh Factory also partnered with LA Comic-Con and Dani Bowman on the 2026 NERD NIGHT OUT. The aforementioned are super-powerful reminders  of creative industry social responsibility and impactful programming.
“At Disguise, we love being part of collaborations that make a difference,”* says Tara Cortner, President and GM, Disguise, Inc. “This roast allows us to put our costumes into action, while supporting a fantastic cause.”

“This is the biggest encore that we’ve ever enjoyed!” effuses AIE Founder and Work Group Chair Judi Uttal. “Our goal is to let the world know that autistic talent is interesting, per se (Dylan Aguilar puns intended). Autism’s got talent, and they deserve to work in this industry, and be paid for it.”
SPEC-O-WEEN: A night of talent and inclusion on the day before . . .
As a kind of roast precursor, yet special in its own right, Spec Labs is set to kick off Halloweekend with its annual SPEC-O-WEEN, a live variety benefit showcase that highlights the neurodivergent community. Taking place at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre on Friday, October 30, this musical comedy revue features a staggering cast of 75 neurodivergent entertainers, featuring notable names, such as Chelsea Darnell and Amos Stillwell from the SPECTRUM ROAST SQUAD ROAST OF SUPERVILLAINS; plus Spec Labs voiceover department head Cathy McAuley; Broadway and TV regular Richard Cox and his daughter Willow Cox; LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM recurring cast member Caroline Corry, and TAKE ME HOME film star Domonique Brown.
