What did Children want for Christmas in 1897? Here are some letters to the Richmond Times Dispatch from December 19 of that year. Its interesting that nuts, fresh fruit, dried fruit and candy were on every list. They must have been scarcer and more expensive for children to have asked Santa for them them along with their requests for games and toys.

  1. So happy to see that the first 3 children were so polite.
I also noticed that the child that spelled my last name incorrectly said (I want) instead of asking.
Unfortunately today most of the letters say “I want or Give me”
More parents should make sure that their children are polite in all they do.
    Love Always
