Futura, a pioneering New York artist who rose from the late 1970s graffiti movement is acclaimed for his abstract style, futuristic motifs, and kinetic line work that redefined the medium. From live painting with The Clash and creating Supreme’s iconic box logo to collaborations with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and now Hot Wheels, he is recognized as a trailblazer whose influence continues to shape both street culture and contemporary art.
For the collaboration, Futura chose the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 as a tribute to Japan’s street culture and its influence on his career. His first visit to Japan nearly 50 years ago shaped both his artistic journey and his appreciation for Japanese art and automotive design, making the Mitsubishi a fitting nod to the country’s lasting contributions.
In addition to the Futura livery, the die-cast also features Hot Wheels Real Rider tires and an acrylic display case with a decorative base, also designed by the artist.
