May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shine a spotlight on the pressing need for mental health support—especially for our children. With 1 in 6 U.S. kids facing a mental health challenge and only half receiving the treatment they need, the stakes couldn’t be higher. This is why we at Global Toy News are thrilled to highlight an innovative and impactful partnership: the Sloomoo Institute’s collaboration with MindUP, the Goldie Hawn Foundation’s non-profit for mental fitness.
Tackling Mental Health Through Mindfulness and Play
Sloomoo Institute, America’s premier slime experience, and MindUP, a pioneer in mental health education for PreK-8th grade, are joining forces to bring mindfulness and tactile play to the forefront of mental wellness initiatives. For over 20 years, MindUP has delivered science-backed tools to help children manage stress, build resilience, and develop emotional intelligence. This collaboration couldn’t come at a better time, as half of all lifetime mental illnesses manifest by age 14.
Together, the two organizations are proving that play isn’t just fun—it’s transformative. Their partnership will emphasize the calming and therapeutic benefits of slime as a mindfulness tool.
A Slimeful Reminder
At the heart of this partnership is the launch of limited-edition “A Slimeful Reminder” products, featuring soothing cloud dough textures and a calming lavender eucalyptus scent. These slimes are more than just sensory delights; they’re vehicles for mental wellness, with proceeds directly benefiting MindUP’s education programs.
Beyond retail, Sloomoo will make a tangible difference in schools and communities. This spring, they’ll engage with three schools and two MindUP community partners, distributing approximately 2,000 slimes to attendees and providing educator training and wellness programming. By fostering mindfulness through tactile play, this initiative aims to equip children and educators with tools to navigate the complexities of mental health.

Why This Matters
As advocates for innovation in the toy industry, we at Global Toy News see this partnership as a beacon of hope. Toys have always been about more than entertainment; they’re instruments of learning, creativity, and, now more than ever, healing. This initiative underscores the profound role the toy industry can play in addressing societal challenges.
Tips for Supporting Kids’ Mental Health
- Encourage Open Communication: Create a safe space where children feel comfortable sharing their feelings. Active listening and empathy go a long way.
- Incorporate Mindfulness Activities: Simple practices like deep breathing, meditation, or using tactile tools like slime can help children manage stress and stay grounded.
- Promote Physical Activity: Regular exercise boosts mood and reduces anxiety. Encourage outdoor play and activities that get kids moving.
- Model Healthy Behaviors: Children often mirror the adults in their lives. Demonstrate resilience, stress management, and positive coping strategies.
- Limit Screen Time: Encourage activities that foster creativity and interpersonal connections instead of excessive screen use.
We commend Sloomoo Institute and MindUP for their dedication to supporting children’s mental health. As we continue to navigate the challenges facing our youth, partnerships like this offer a roadmap for how play, education, and mindfulness can intersect to create lasting change. Here’s to a brighter, slime-filled future for mental wellness!
