Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Toy Industry Luminary Richard Gottlieb

Today, on October 1st, we mark the birthday of a man whose influence has been monumental in shaping the world of toys and the lives of those within the industry—Richard Gottlieb. As a beloved expert, thought leader, and visionary in the toy world, Richard’s contributions have left an indelible mark, inspiring innovation, joy, and countless memories for children and families alike.

Though we honor his birthday today, our hearts are filled with anticipation for an even more profound moment later this month. On October 25th, we will come together to celebrate Richard’s life with an event that promises to be as dynamic and full of passion as he was. This celebration of life is an opportunity for friends, colleagues, and loved ones to pay tribute to the man who was more than just an industry giant—he was a friend, a mentor, and a beacon of wisdom.

In line with his legacy of fostering creativity, Richard’s alma mater, the University of Richmond, has established the Richard Gottlieb Grant, a tribute that encapsulates his enduring spirit. The grant is designed to support students in the fields of business and entrepreneurship, offering a helping hand to the next generation of innovators—much like Richard himself. It aims to inspire students who share his passion for forward-thinking, providing them with the resources to explore new ideas and drive meaningful change. Richard believed in the power of toys not just as products but as catalysts for imagination, growth, and transformation—principles that this grant embodies.

  1. Thank God for the life of Richard. I would suggest that you get a video of just a minute from all that who knew and interacted with him and who can’t make it to this event, which you can play it on the 25th.
