Newsweek’s “America’s Best Retailers 2022” – What toy and toy related retailers made the list

Newsweek published its “America’s Best Retailers 2022.” The magazine commissioned Statista to do a poll to determine the best bricks and mortar retailers in America. One hundred ninety-five retailers made the list. Their achievement was based on whether the respondent would recommend the retailer to friends and family, price, assortment, and environment.

I culled the list down to retailers who sell toys. Here is what I found:

  1. Lego
  2. Build-A Bear Workshop
  3. Disney Store
  4. American Girl
  5. HobbyTown

DEPARTMENT STORES

  1. Von Maur
  2. Neiman Marcus
  3. Saks Fifth Avenue
  4. Nordstrom
  5. Bloomingdales

Sporting Goods Retailers

  1. Scheels
  2. Academy
  3. Hibbet
  4. DICKS

OUTDOOR

  1. Bass Pro Shops
  2. Cabela’s
  3. REI
  4. Sportsman’s Warehouse

BOOKSTORES

  2. Michaels

SUPERSTORES AND WAREHOUSE CLUBS

  2. Target
  3. Sam’s Club

  5. Meijer

Comments:

Lego led the field, ranking 8th out of 195.

Walmart did not make the Superstore and Warehouse Club list.

Macy’s did not make the list. However, now that it is carrying toys via its Toys R Us departments, it’s important to take a second look at department stores as a purveyor of toys.

Warehouse Clubs dominated the Superstores and Warehouse Club segment
