The National Retail Federation and Kantar have collaborated on evaluating the world’s top retailers based on their operational excellence. The result was “Top 50 Global Retailers 2022.”
I love tearing these lists apart and seeing what I can discover. For example, none of the American grocery chains made the list. That is surprising in a list in with twelve grocers listed, almost 25% of the Top 50. What countries grocers dominated? They were France, Germany, and The Netherlands.
The toy industry is not interested in Fashion, Furniture, or Beauty retailers. We do, however, follow Mass Merchants and E-Commerce retailers. Those two channels combine to list twelve companies, again close to 25% of the list between the two.
Europe is the world leader in retail operational excellence with 28 companies making the list. The US placed ten while Asia listed nine merchants.
The US and the rest of the world has some catching up to do. Right now, Europe is the leader.
