After pausing pricing for pre-orders right after the launch of Nintendo Switch 2, the company has announced that it will hold the previously announced price of $449 for the basic unit and $499 for the game unit and Mario Kart World bundle for $499. Availability will still be on the previously announced date of June 5. The announcement was made via press release from the company.
The move comes after speculation that tariffs would significantly increase the cost of the console. However, reports from various sources indicate that Nintendo has earmarked Switch 2 consoles manufactured in Vietnam for the U.S. market. Since the Trump administration announced a 90-day pause on “reciprocal” tariffs for Vietnam, the tariff rate for items coming into the U.S. will be 10 percent, versus 46 percent.
The company, however, announced that there would be price increases in accessories, which are made in China, and that there may be other price adjustments in the future.
The move is good news for U.S. retailers and gamers. However, it points up the operational challenges posed for manufacturers seeking to bring products into the U.S. under the current tariff regulations.
