The BBC’s Top 100 Children’s Books of All Time

The BBC has done us all an excellent service by compiling a list of “The Top 100 Greatest Children’s Books of All Time.” Such a list allows us to give value to an elemental part of childhood, reading books. It also establishes that books for children, like those for adults, deserve to be appraised based on their qualities rather than all lumped together, unworthy of praise or scorn.

To create their list, the BBC compiled a list of 1050 books and then asked 177 experts to vote. The voters were from fifty-six countries. One hundred thirty-three were female, 41 were male, and three claimed no gender. Each was asked to rank their own top 10. The Top 100 came from those lists.

When you review the list, let us know if you felt they missed your favorite book or included a book you don’t think belonged.
