Toys “R” Us Is Back; I Saw It For Myself

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the “Macy’s Toys “R” Us Opening Celebration “ held at the original Herald Square store in New York City. I want to emphasize the word “pleasure” because Toys R Us is indeed back. I had a smile on my face the entire time, and so did everyone who attended.

It’s been a rough few years for the toy industry. Yes, like the rest of the world, we have had to endure Covid, supply chain hurdles, inflation, and more. But our challenging few years started with the bankruptcy of our industry’s flagship toy chain. Money was lost, friendships were damaged, and the industry felt a sense of malaise.

I know I felt it. But after last night, Geoffrey and I are back on good terms. Why? Because what we saw and experienced last night looked and felt great. Macy’s and Toys “R” Us have done a wonderful job. There were lots of toys beautifully merchandised. The speeches by Macy’s and Toys R Us Management were heartfelt and filled with more than words. They knew they were doing something more than bringing back a failed brand. They were helping to heal a hurting toy industry.

Toys R Us looked new again. People looked almost giddy. Geoffrey looked rested and ready. It’s time for the toy industry to feel whole again. Welcome back, Toys R Us.

Lots of nice display work
