You know a piece of intellectual property has become iconic when the U.S. Post Office decides to produce stamps honoring it. That is what has happened to Star Wars.
This Spring, the post office will issue ten “Droid” stamps featuring the likeness of, among others, C-3PO, R2-D2, BB-8 and Chopper. Here is how the Postal Service press release puts it:
These set of droids are a nod to Lucasfilm’s, as well as its parent company, Disney’s, commitment to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning and the continued collaboration between “Star Wars: Force for Change” and global pre-K-12 nonprofit organization “FIRST” (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).
It’s really an extraordinary marketing boost for The Walt Disney Company, Hasbro and the many other Star Wars licensees. Its a win-win, not just for the licensors and licensees but for all of the Star Wars fans in our solar system.
