I look at a lot of toy catalogs and after a while they all start to look the same. They largely feature hot new toys and low, low prices. Something we have seen for years and something we will undoubtedly see for years to come.

The new ebay catalog is different. It features not just the hot and new but the old and rare. Sure, you can find an L.O.L. Surprise Doll for $19.50 but you can also find a first generation Transformer set for $100,000. Or, how about a collector Star Wars set for $1,000.

And it doesn't stop there. I found a  vintage Boba Fett for $10.999.99 (love that price) as well as a 1979 set of Lord of the Rings action figures from Knickerbocker Toys for $20,000.

Yes, this is a toy catalog but one that, wisely in my opinion, keeps its eyes right where they belong, on the affluent toy collector and the collector wannabe. I counted up 11 items priced in excess of $1,000 that total up to $365,594.97. Thats an average of $32,236 dollars each.

This is the type of catalog that makes you want to look, and look closely, at every page. This is the type of catalog that brings the excitement of the treasure hunt to something that has become a chore to too many parents.

How exciting to find a catalog that does not just offer the expected but the unexpected as well. ebay has brought the surprise back into Christmas and for that they should be applauded.
