The Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair will take place this January from January 7 – 10, 2019   at the Hong Kong Convention Centre in the Wan Chai district on Hong Kong Island.
At the same time that the fair is taking  place; American toy industry members (as well as toy people from the UK, Australia, New Zealand and other countries) will be walking the streets of the toy district in the Tsim Tsha Tsui district of Kowloon.  If you stand on the harbor front in Kowloon you can easily see the convention centre sitting out in the harbor.

Despite the Convention Centre being located no more than a 30 minute trip from Kowloon and that it is easy to get to the convention centre by taxi, subway or ferry (a lifetime memory for anyone who has ridden it) and that there are many toy companies from Asia, Europe and other parts of the world exhibiting there; few Americans actually manage to make the trip across the harbor.

Here are four simple reasons to do so:

1.    A little bit of the Nuremberg toy fair in Hong Kong

If you are not able to make it to the Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg, Germany you can still see a large number of international toy companies at the Toys & Games Fair.

2.    Make some new relationships

I always maintain that the most important thing that can happen at a show is the person you met behind you in the coffee line.

3.    Get educated

The Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair provides a number of seminars on doing business globally and in Asia.  This provides a rare opportunity to hear different voices and points of view.

4.    Secure added value

Going to Hong Kong is a valuable yet major investment for many companies.  Once a company has committed to the investment, however, doesn’t it make sense to get some added value by crossing the harbor and attending the show?

I hope you do cross the harbor and if you do, please let us know about your experience.
