Sir Roast McDuck, one of Donald Duck’s ancestors
If you have ever spent time in your misspent youth (or your misspent adulthood for that matter) digging into the Donald Duck comic book oeuvre, you will have had the opportunity to appreciate just how sophisticated and great fun the stories are. Artists Carl Barks and Don Rosa, among others, have provided a rich series of storylines. They have also developed some wonderful characters who live in and around the city of Duckburg in the state of Calisota.
That was why I wanted to share this great Duck family tree, created by Don Rosa. Most of us are familiar with Donald, Uncle Scrooge as well as Donald’s nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. But what about the triplets’ mother, Della, and their mysteriously missing father, only represented by a question mark.
There are characters with clever, punning names like: Fethery Duck, Downy O’Drake, Quackmore Duck, Eider Duck and the wonderful Sir Roast McDuck. If you look closely, you will also note that the Duck family has several branches: The Coots, the Ducks, the Gooses and The Clan McDuck.
If you want to know more about the Ducks, McDucks, Coots and Gooses, you may want to read “The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck” by Don Rosa.
Thanks to my son, Matt Gottlieb, for bringing the Duck family tree to my attention.
