I am excited to be heading to Guangzhou,China for the International Toy & Hobby Fair. I am particularly looking forward to the trip for two reasons:

1.    I am leading the "Toy Talks" forum which will take place on April 9th. As a result, I will be with great speakers like:

Laura Post - Former Vice President of Global Insights, Lego Group
Gary Man - Director & Chief Designer, Bumblebee Studio
Kirsten Yyterbo - Senior Vice President King Bee Toys
Crystal Zhong - General Manager, Kidsland
Robin Raskin - Founder, Living in Digital Times
Matt Hudak - Senior Analyst, Toys & Games, Euromonitor International

2.    Guangzhou is the center of the world's toy economy

Guangzhou is the largest city in the Pearl River Delta, the center of China's enormous toy manufacturing region. Producing 86 percent of the world's toys makes Guangzhou and the surrounding region the center of the world's $87 billion toy industry.

This fair, however, is in large part a show for the domestic Chinese market. Retail buyers from all over China will be coming to make decisions on what toys Chinese children and their parents will be purchasing this year.

China is projected by Euromonitor to be the largest toy consumption market in the world, passing the U.S., by 2022. This means that Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta are even more important. It is this nexus of supply and demand that fascinates me.

Its a new world and I intend to learn as much about it as I can.
