Surprise is at the heart of opening a present on Christmas morning or any morning for that matter.
Cyber Monday 2017 is history and we now know the best selling toys. That's thanks to Forbes magazine. An article entitled: "Cyber Monday's Top Selling Electronics, Games and Toys" revealed the top six sellers as:
- Hatchimals Glittering Garden (Spin Master)
- PJ Masks Deluxe Talking Figure Set (Just Play)
- Hatchimals CollEGGtibles 4Pk (Spin Master)
- L.O.L. Surprise! Doll Series 2 (MGA)
- Rollplay Mini Cooper 6-Volt-Powered Battery Ride On (Rollplay)
- Funko Pop Star Wars Figures (Funko)
When you look at the list, it is hard to miss that three of the six, the two Hatchimals products and L.O.L. Surprise!, all offer a surprise. In all three cases, you don't know what you are getting until you open them up.
Why are these "surprise" toys selling so well? Perhaps it is because there is so little surprise left on Christmas morning.
Here is what I think: Children have more exposure to fewer products than prior generations. Not only that, they are inundated with Youtube videos that show the products being unboxed, put together and played with.
Perhaps Spin Master and MGA have both realized that children still want to be surprised and that surprise is at the heart of opening a present on Christmas morning or any morning for that matter.
Surprise is the driver of 2017. That's the real surprise…or is it?
