Hong Kong; fewer people and less excitement

I am in Hong Kong and am busy collecting stories and intelligence from sales representatives, manufacturers and retailers.  As the week goes on, I will continue to do so and summarize what I am finding.  In the meantime, it appears from those I have spoken with so far that 2010 was certainly a better year than last but not a great year.   In addition, I am hearing some stories of heavy inventory carry over.  I will continue to monitor and report back.

It looks to me like attendance, at least from the US, is down this year with empty bars and an unexpected ease in getting into restaurants.  The lack of major retailers in January (many are coming in the last quarter of the year) has thinned out the toy industry population.  It’s great if you don’t like crowds but a bit of a letdown if you like excitement.

More to come…
